EAT & DRINK: Best Restaurants in Byron Bay
"Food and coffee combine with absolute grace in one of Byron Bay’s primary foodie destinations. You may feel like you’ve walked into one of the Bay’s coolest bars but it’s actually a whole-food café/restaurant with a menu reflecting the best of what’s in-season and on-trend. The need to queue for a table just gives visitors more time to browse the full list of coffees and cocktails on offer, alongside the Instagram-ready breakfasts, brunches and lunches."
"People who used to serve up coffee at Top Shop run another popular coffee shop in Byron Bay. At night, The Roadhouse becomes a whisky bar, but during the day it serves Byron Bay organic coffee among other pick-me-ups. Where to find The Roadhouse: 6/142 Bangalow Rd., Byron Bay"
"Back to Byron Bay town itself now and we find ourselves at Loft. As its name implies, this is an upstairs venue that looks down to the bustling Jonson Street below (it’s a few doors down from Miss Margarita) and is an upmarket establishment with lashings of natural light, wood and white furniture that exude the typical beachside Byron lifestyle. You’re welcome day or night, although be warned, past 9 pm the menu changes to snacks and nibbles."
"Located just off Main Beach, the bar has an elevated terrace so you can look out over famous Jonson Street while you relax with friends. This is one of the newest bars in Byron Bay, with a seaside ambience and contemporary Australian food menu which includes a popular weekend brunch."
"The best way to get to this great local hangout is to walk from Byron Bay’s Main Beach out toward the Wreck (local surf spot) and keep heading south to Belongil Beach. Take our tip and leave just before sunset and it will take you twenty minutes to walk to the Treehouse while the sun is setting, colouring the sky with rainbow hues. When you arrive you just have to cross the road to this retro bar and indulge in late afternoon bevvies."
"The Belongil offers beautiful coffee and generous breakfasts. Located in the beachside suburb of Belongil, in Byron Bay, known for its tranquility, undeveloped landscape and beach. Open for brunch: 7am – 2pm."
"Head along to the Balcony Bar in the centre of town for the Oyster Hour of Power from 5-6pm, to get you in the mood for a romantic evening. If you stay for dinner, you can sit on their famous balcony and sip some of the well-known cocktails or if you are in the mood for experimenting you can try a twist, such as chilli mojito or Brookie’s gin and tonic with aniseed myrtle. Dinner starts at 6 pm and includes seafood, steak and or sharing plates of tapas for a more intimate foodie experience."
"Your Hamptons-style hideaway, Balcony Bar is the aptly named building that is perched above Byron’s bustling Johnson St. The wine list provides a very decent offering of most varietals (special occasion? Why not go the Charles Heidsieck!), or be easily tempted by a cocktail menu that oozes with ‘pick me’ energy. Address: 7/3 Lawson St, Byron Bay"
"St. Elmo Dining Room & Bar serves up contemporary Spanish tapas dishes perfect to share with that special someone. The innovative, ever-changing menu is inspired by the region’s fresh and flavoursome produce. Plus, with more than 100, carefully curated bottles of wine, St. Elmo offers one of the finest culinary experiences in their relaxed yet intimate dining room."

"Slice Pizzeria is located on Jonson Street and is a convenient place to grab a bite to eat. If you’re looking for a good place to grab a piece of pizza, as the name says, then stop by here while you’re out sightseeing. This is a perfect quick lunch spot if you’re wanting takeaway and to head back to the beach."

"Not far from the Byron Bay Library on Lawson Street, you’ll find Trattoria Basiloco. This Italian restaurant is actually run by an Italian family, who moved from the island of Sardinia to Byron Bay. And visitors seem to notice the difference — many Tripadvisor reviews mentioned how authentic the cuisine is!"
"This eatery sits on Jonson Street as the name suggests, but it’s not located on top of the beach, rather it’s closer to Woolworths Byron Bay. You can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner at Jonsons Restaurant. According to some of the Google reviews, it looks to be a fairly popular breakfast joint as people thought they served good coffee."

"Often overlooked by tourists, Belongil Beach is a 2.5km stretch of sand between the mouth of Belongil Creek in the west and the seawall and Byron Bay car park further east. It’s a much quieter alternative to Byron Bay’s Main Beach (see below), which makes Belongil Beach suitable for families, and also dog owners. In 1921, a 2K ton passenger steamship named Wollongbar stranded in the surf right in front of Belongil Beach."
"Belongil Beach is the first northerly beach and is about a one km walk north of Main Beach, it is a consistent beach good for all levels of surfing ability. It works best on a south easterly swell with an off-shore southerly or south westerly wind. It’s a quieter beach than some others which is good for beginners when the waves are small."
"Northwest of the town centre, wild Belongil Beach has high dunes and avoids the worst of the crowds. It's clothing-optional in parts. At its eastern end is the Wreck, a powerful right-hand surf break."
