About Broome
"During the heyday of Broome’s pearling industry, the pearlers (many from China, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia and Europe) would arrive back on shore cashed up and head to the opium dens and billiard halls of Chinatown. Now, Chinatown is Broome’s main shopping district. It’s a fascinating mix of Colonial and corrugated sheds next to colourful Asian architecture."
"It differs from most other cities’ Chinatowns as it only contains 3 Chinese restaurants but has numerous retail shops. In the early days, it was full of pearling sheds, opium dens, and noodle houses. You can find some of the original buildings down Carnarvon Street."
"As it’s the central hub of Broome, it’s no surprise that there are a number of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Despite its name, there’s a wide range of cuisines to choose from and plenty of great places for brunch as well."

"Streeters Jetty was built around 1890 to service the pearl industry. Pearl luggers dropped off their shells to the sorting sheds and a trolley rail line ran the length of the jetty for easy offloading of the shells. The Indigenous and Asian locals used the jetty for swimming and fishing as this was the only place to do so."
"For equally brilliant views, the Mangrove Hotel’s Bay Club is a stylish outdoor restaurant and bar overlooking Roebuck Bay. Sip on cocktails and cold beer with the sounds of live music and the tastes of the finest produce the Kimberley has to offer."
"For the best coffee, breakfast bowls, smoothies and mouth-watering sliders – head to The Good Cartel. With great friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere, the locals and visitors both love it. Tucked away next to the cinema complex be sure not to miss it!"
"Good Cartel make some of the best coffee in town, so head straight there in the morning to get the Broome ball rolling. That said they’re also open basically all day, and have an interesting menu full of fresh, healthy options to keep you well-fuelled."
